Christmas 2016

Brice & I celebrated our last Christmas as a family of two in true B²Adventures fashion!

As of December 24th our Christmas plans consisted of sitting in our apartment and making a ham for dinner. On Christmas morning, we woke up and opened presents from my parents and played with Sharma. *Brice and I exchanged gifts 2 weeks before Christmas because we were excited about the gifts and each wanted the other to start using their presents*

Around 10:00 am, I was in the kitchen grabbing breakfast and Brice hollered from the couch – Want to go to Canada? Definitely not a question I was expecting to hear! We talked about it and decided YES, Victoria B.C. would be an awesome adventure!! By 11:30, Brice, Sharma, and I were on the road to Port Angeles, WA to catch the ferry to Victoria.

On the way, we called family, belted out Christmas songs, and looked up places to park the Jeep so we could walk on the ferry. We made it right in time. We found a parking spot, left a note that we’d pay in the morning since it was Christmas Day and no one was around, and crossed our fingers the Jeep would be there when we returned. The ferry ride was awesome. We had an awesome view of Mt. Baker as the sun was setting. Sharma loved running around on the boat and feeling the gentle sway of the vessel carrying us to our next adventure.

We arrived without a hiccup and received so many compliments on how adorable and well behaved our pooch was. *Hopefully we receive the same reactions when Baby B is here 🙂 * After a walk in the park and around the block a few times, we dropped Sharma at the hotel and headed out to explore the city. Since it was Christmas day, not much was open, but we got to see some beautiful lights and views. We saw Canada’s oldest Chinatown and North America’s 2nd oldest (San Fran being the 1st), the capital building, and all the beauty that is Victoria. We found a cute English style pub, which other than Burger King and a Chinese restaurant was the only thing open, and enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner of fish n’ chips paired delightfully with multiple games of darts!! Which – if you didn’t know, Brice is kind of a dart master… but I did win the last game 🙂 I dropped the dart, and legit walked away.

We finished our evening with a playful dip in the hotel pool and relaxed watching a cute movie in our room with the pooch. It was a great Christmas! That being said – we talked a lot about family events that we knew were happening… we kept and eye on the time and at each traditional house switch we said, welp – we’d be at Granny’s now, then we’d be heading to Grandma & Grandpa’s now, and so on. It was fun to imagine what everyone was doing and hope that they were enjoying each others company as much as we were enjoying our alone time together. We pictured making the trip to Victoria again when our little nugget gets here and allowed ourselves to dream about the future – something we were a little reserved to do until we hit the 2nd trimester and learned Baby B was strong and healthy.

We spent exactly 24 hours in Victoria B.C. and left her with the promise to return again in the Spring! Thinking ahead and dreaming about the future is super fun, but this Christmas our focus was on the present and enjoying one another in the moment. I have to say… it was magical!

On our way to Victoria B.C.

It was freezing, but so much fun!

Here was Sharma’s first experience with a Peacock… He became much more relaxed as we went underneath a tree that was full of, at a minimum, 10 peacocks perched and staring us down.
