On Feb 4th, we were showered with love by a few of our favorite people! From super early on in the pregnancy, Travis & Kelly Moje have been super supportive and stoked to help us in any way that they can. When we were trying to decide if we wanted to tell people what we were having and if we wanted to find out, Kelly bubbled up in anticipation for us, swearing all along that Baby B was a girl. They offered to throw a gender reveal party for us and it was amazing! They killed it!
When the ultrasound day came, we walked out of the doctors office with the envelope results in tow. We were supposed to drive directly to the Mojes’ house so we could drop off the envelope with the precious results! Brice & I debated just opening the envelope, taking a quick peek, then acting surprised at the party. Anyone who’s ever played games with me knows I love to cheat! I think it’s super fun now because everyone knows that I’ll try to cheat at some point, but no one knows when…. (enter dorky evil laugh muahahaha sound). Finding out our baby’s gender before our reveal party was the most I’ve ever been tempted!!! We decided not to look and Brice just drove faster so we could give it away and resist temptation.
After we dropped off the envelope with Travis we sat in his driveway debating if it was a boy or girl. Based on a few of the ultrasounds we had seen at the doctors appointment we were guessing girl, but weren’t 100% sure. The ultrasound appointment lasted 1.5 hours with easily 50+ pictures taken of Baby B. Because I was almost at 20 weeks, they wanted to measure everything on her and make sure she was growing properly. She kept her head tucked most of the time which made it difficult to get brain/head measurements so thankfully the technician was patient with us and took a ton of other pictures while we waited for her to move.
While waiting we were able to see the 4 quadrants of her heart, a perfect spine with no showings of spina bifida, 10 fingers, 10 toes, perfectly proportionate legs/arms/feet to her age, and we watched her spread her fingers wide apart and then curl them up, open her mouth, and place her fingertips inside her mouth… that part was amazing to see. To help motivate her to lift her head and turn around, the tech lowered my head and raised my feet – 3 times. Each time we’d wait about 15 minutes, she’d start to lift her head then stop. So the tech would tilt me back a bit more. Finally, she was in position and we could see the different sections of her brain – so crazy!!
All in all, everything about her is the perfect size, weight, etc. When it came time to see the gender, the tech told us to look away while she checked. It was in those moments that Brice and I stared at one another, smiled, and I’d love to say shared a deep, meaningful look, but quite honestly it was a combo of “Hey, don’t cheat” & “You’re not looking are you?? No peaking!” The perfect summary of our humor and joy together. Once finished we walked away with a TON of baby pics that I’ll post later. There’s one picture where she’s looking directly at the “camera” and her face looks like a skeleton from Pirates of the Caribbean – it’s soooo creepy. I can hardly look at it. Apparently baby face fat doesn’t show very well and isn’t that developed yet to make her look beautiful on a regular ultrasound machine 🙂
Anyways – It was kind of crazy to know that some of our best friends knew what our baby was before we did, but I was OK with that. Saturday morning was amazing. Trav & Kel went all out and killed it with the party! They made tutus and ties and upon party entry you had to choose what you thought the baby gender was and wear the appropriate tutu or tie. I loved it. Of course, I grabbed a tie and Brice grabbed a tutu.
Thankfully technology allowed us to live stream the event so our families back east could share in our moment. It was awesome to get everyone involved. We felt so loved and supported. A special thanks to all who attended, watched online, and to Travis & Kelly for being such amazing and incredible friends! Turns out – IT’S A GIRL!!!!!!!
Now we’re walking that fine line of ‘We hope she’s pretty but not tooo pretty so we don’t have to worry about every boy hitting on her, only a few 😉 ‘
Here are a few pics from the party! *sorry, it’s a little dark*
