Mini KY Life Adventure Update

It seems like it has rained more in 2019 in Kentucky, then it has in Washington over the last 6 years combined! Quite honestly, the thought of lugging around a baby in the rain hasn’t sounded that fun to us. We’re all about Blayke experiencing new things and learning to go with the flow when things are uncomfortable. We’ve found though, regardless of the age, that if the first few times you try something new it’s a bad experience (weather-wise, attitude, sickness, getting lost, injured, being in pain, etc) you are a lot less likely to try that thing again.

*We have a friend who took his wife backpacking for the first time on a 45+ mile overnight trek. They had horrible weather, she got blisters, and it was overall not a great time. Since then, I can count on Grandma Shelva’s hand how many times she’s been back in the woods. It’s important to note, that Grandma Shelva only has 3 fingers on one hand.*

That being said, we strive to make new adventures a great experience, even if a few things go wrong – see the post about that time Blayke cried bloody murder in the wilderness because we forgot her comfort items. Obviously, it’s not always a success.

Thankfully, we’ve been able to get out in the woods and explore the KY wild during the pocketful of sun shining days we’ve had over the last 3 months. Here are a few photos of our adventures & a Blayke update!

Mini Blayke development update:
– Her hair is getting so long but she’s not a huge fan of ponytails and we don’t like hair clips
– She can make a ton of animal noises
– Still sleeping like a champ & has adjusted to her new home and daycare
– She’s a comedian
– She loooooves all animals
– If you ask her what color something is, the answer is always ‘Red’
– She says ‘I love you’ and ‘I miss you’ in the cutest, softest voice that will turn anyone to mush
– Being outside is one of her favorite things, regardless of the temperature or precipitation
– And, I think my favorite thing, she has now started asking to snuggle or “Guggle?” when it’s time for bed or when she first wakes up… it is legitimately heart melting.

As the weather is finally getting nicer, we plan on being out a lot more and I plan on getting back to regular-ish updates. Stoked to share the things that we’ve been working on over the past couple months, how adjusting to KY life is going, and the ever growing joys of Blayke learning to talk & becoming more and more independent.
